Whether you’re a newbie or have some experience, this workshop is guaranteed to help flat line that learning curve and take your quilting to the next level.
Day 1
1. Basics of Freehand Quilting
Starting with a few simple shapes, we will get your creativity flowing while we build some quick, easy and versatile designs you can use just about anywhere. Next, we’ll move into combining and altering those shapes to create more complex designs that are fantastic for edge to edge quilting.
2. Background Fillers-When, Where, Why?
Three great questions! In this portion of the class, we will work with some easy, yet very effective designs that will give personality and amazing texture to those quilts. In this section we’ll also cover thread choices. What weight? What colour? What about density? How heavy should you get with what thread? How do you decide? So many decisions to make!
Day 2
1. Ruler Work Basics
Rulers are an incredible tool and not just for stitching in the ditch! Crosshatching, echoing, separating and creating new space in large areas….We will start with straight and curved rulers to create some easy yet versatile block and border designs you can then embellish with your ninja freehand skills.
*** Lots of different sizes and shaped rulers will be available to play with too! Let’s see what we come up with!
2. Fun with Stencils
In this portion of the class we will explore just a few of the limitless possibilities stencils give us. We will use them to create background designs as well as border treatments. Freehand quilting or ruler work using stencils as a guide will open up a whole new world for you!
During the workshop, we will also cover batting choices, threads, needles, marking tools.....
